EoF was supposed to head into ICC Wednesday night. That didn't work.
Tried Thursday. That didn't work either.
Finally, we made it back in on Saturday. I was sick and out of commission earlier in the week, but there were also a couple more folks who couldn't make it to the weeknight raids. It was probably a good thing, really. A little break now and then can't hurt.
I was lucky enough to get the shield from the Gunship Battle. Finally, I got to ditch the one heroic item I was still lugging around. I've always had miserable luck with shield upgrades.
The real story of the night, though, was Festergut. First attempt was an almost instant wipe. During the second attempt I died and our other tank blew up due to 10 stacks of Gastric Bloat. The third time, however, proved to be the charm. Clean kill, no deaths, much rejoicing.
We took a look at Rotface before we called it and, if we execute as well as we did on Saturday, I'm hopeful we'll be able to drop him this week.

Out of My Cold, Dead Hands
In TBC I proudly carried my Khorium Destroyer, crafted for me as a gift from my lovely wife, Cheesi. It was the tank gun back then...kind of a rite of passage into the ranks of the meat shields.
When WotLK came around, I crafted myself an Armor Plated Combat Shotgun the second I hit 80. Great tank weapon when you start your heroicing.
That's a long stretch of time to be carrying nothing but a gun. Veneretio recommended a while back to pick up some thrown weapons for a trash set, but I never really got anything in TBC or early WotLK that I wouldn't be embarrassed carrying in a raid. Thrown weapons back then were pretty much built for rogues, so they were great for trash threat. Plus, throwing has a much shorter cast time than shooting (that was a big deal pre-Heroic Throw, but even now it's helpful to have a secondary option in the event that the pulls are happening quick and HT is on cooldown).
Not too terribly long ago, I coughed up some emblems for the Blades of the Sable Cross, the first really accessible replacement for an Engineering tanking gun in a very, very long time.
There was nothing wrong with the Blades. In fact, they were quite nice. It just felt weird to not have a gun. It was hard enough to take off my goggles, but losing my gun, too? I felt naked...couldn't walk through Tinkertown without getting dirty looks.
Last night during our ICC cleanup (didn't get Festergut, but made some progress on him), Stinky fell and Tatia said she/he/it dropped a BoE: Rowan's Rifle of Silver Bullets.
Thanks, Blizz, for making sure I don't have to bring knives to any more gunfights.

Recap
After last Wednesday's..."issues"...with ICC, we walked in on Saturday and one-shot all the content we had previously cleared. We then two-shot Saurfang.
The Turned Champion isn't really that bad of a fight when you get down to it. It just requires communication, especially when things don't go according to plan. If, for example, a Blood Beast starts gnawing on melee for some reason, don't panic...just say something to the ranged responsible for picking them up. There's not a ton of room for error, but you can get yourself out of a fix if you stay calm and just talk to each other.
We took a look at Festergut and are going to give him an honest effort tonight if we can manage the personnel. There was a lot of "do we have the dps for this?" talk, but I think we can do it. The mechanics on that fight aren't as complicated as some of the other ICC fights, so our dps crew should have enough room to work without that much distraction.
I also learned that I can't tank Heroic Halls of Reflection, specifically, the waves at the beginning. I gave it my best effort, but simply cannot pull it off. If the mobs all came from the same place, I could manage, but because they're coming in from all over the room it's a little too much for this poor, old, beat-up Warrior to handle. I also get a bit of lag sometimes when dealing with AoE, so when a rifleman drops a frost trap on top of whatever AoE the group is doing I end up with a couple seconds of a frozen screen only to return to find a dead healer.
I'm sure I could do it, but it would take some practice. The problem with practicing a unique set of pulls from a specific instance, though, is that four other people are paying for it, too...both with time and repair bills.
All in all, it was a good weekend in Azeroth. Got my Ashen Verdict ring and even managed to putz around with the holidays. I don't think I'm gonna get titles out of both of them, but I'll settle for some achievement points and vanity items. My banker is very happy with her new Lovely Red Dress, but keeps bugging me about the black one.
Hopefully we can take out Festergut tonight and cross another boss off of our progression list.

Enter the Tank
Hey. Remember me?
I've been logging on the past couple of weekends trying to get back in the swing of WoW. I missed it, frankly. I missed my guildies, I missed raiding, and I missed cursing every time I get aged yolk (if I don't get that proto-drake before Cataclysm, I'm heading over to the frickin' wolvar, I swear).
Saturday I pulled one of my marathon sessions. I was trying to squeeze in dailies while running after the Baby Tank and keeping the Puppy Tank from peeing in the house.
Saturday night was EoF's second evening in ICC 10. Tatia asked me if I wanted to go, but I didn't want to walk in there with mediocre gear and kill any momentum they had from the prior week when they managed to down three bosses. As the day progressed, though, I realized I really, really wanted to go with them.
So, I picked up the mats for a quick and easy upgrade and signed up. We had a Lock finishing another raid, so we decided to start clearing trash while we waited on him. Started pulling only to realize our other tank, a Pally, was having some technical difficulties. We initially thought it was just a dc, but as it turns out his whole computer went nuts and he was down for the evening.
Down to eight raiders, now, with a tank (that would be me) who's out of practice, undergeared, and trying to hold on to 200 The Damned (hyperbole intended) while all of our better-geared dps go nuts on them.
It worked. Don't worry, I was surprised, too.
We cleared to the first boss, had one of our crew bring in an alt tank, and filled the open slot. Had some difficulty with Marrowgar, but two shot Deathwhisper and the Gunship. Marrowgar was even nice enough to give me a mace as a "welcome back to raiding" gift. It got late, and we called it a night.
When I was raiding more regularly I generally overgeared the content we were attempting. This was the first time in a while I undergeared the content and, subsequently, had less of a margin for error. All in all, I think I did ok.
Might even sign up again for next week.

Believe It Or Not
...people are still showing up here on a daily basis.
Might as well give them something to read.
After my last post, I logged in and made several overdue and well-deserved officer promotions (Millea/Tatia being one). They offered to hold down the fort while I did what I needed to. I love my guild.
I've been online more in the past couple weeks. Messed around this past Saturday with holiday achievements, got in a raid that didn't get far, and got to see the new 5s for the first time.
The new dungeons are simply beautiful. Kudos, Blizz.
I also dabbled in the new random dungeon system. Pet or not, I hate PuGs and will probably not be volunteering myself for it on too regular a basis. I have to say, though, that I got very lucky with PuG members the first time I tried it. The dungeons were easy and the folks we picked up were solid players. Quite painless, overall.
I suppose it helps to be the tank, but that doesn't stop people from pulling for you as I've learned in the past. I like to set a brisk pace (assuming the healer is keeping up), but I will slow down if necessary to maintain control over the pulls. Must not have been too bad for our cross-server groupmates, as nobody complained about it.
I picked up the T9 shoulders with Triumph emblems. I could have waited a bit and picked up the higher ilvl non-tier shoulders, but I was in need of an upgrade and the shoulders provided much-needed expertise. I'm hoping I can get some runs in this week to pick up another emblem upgrade and, possibly, grab some items from the new dungeons.
It's good to be back.

The Stamfest Trinket
Thank you, Vene, for posting what I was thinking and proving to my brain that I wasn't wrong.
Here's my take:
When I logged on last night just about my whole guild was in BRD doing the Brewfest quest and picking up trinkets or, in some cases, mounts. I'm not a big holiday person, so I told them I'd just run some dailies while they were doing it. After a while (when I realized I wasn't going to get to do the daily heroic with guildies until they were done anyway), I conceded and went along.
We were able to fight the guy four times, and two stamina trinkets dropped. I grabbed one and our former RL roommate Tassh grabbed the other for his Warrior.
If you armory me right now you'll see that I'm currently wearing that stamina trinket. Will I continue to wear it as part of my "normal" tanking set? No. Will I keep it in my bags? Yes.
My other stamina trinket option is the Black Heart. I will lose 440 health if I run with the Black Heart rather than the Mug. However, the Aegis proc on the Black Heart is incredible...really incredible. It happens a lot and is a significant increase in armor during the duration. Plus, you get a cool little crown over your head (Warriors don't have a lot in the way of animations aside from Shockwave and Devastate, so crap like that makes me happy).
Most tanks who are ready to jump into heroics or raiding have at least 25K or so health (ballparking...willing to be wrong...don't flame me). If you've been heroicing or raiding for a while you're likely over 30K. What am I getting at? 400 health is, to borrow a term from my day job, immaterial. The armor proc from the BH, on the other hand, is material.
Should you ditch the Mug entirely? No. Should you be less stubborn than me and take advantage of the holiday to get what really is, all things considered, a pretty good trinket? Yes. Run it until you get it if you have the time because, if you're in a fight where having a dodge or other avoidance trinket isn't going to do you any good and you need raw effective health, stacking the Mug and the BH will, together, hand you almost 3K health and a nice, reliable armor proc.
Regardless of all of that, having a lot of trinkets to play with is always a good thing. I'm very hesitant to get rid of trinkets and I'll usually roll on them if I have the chance and nobody else needs them more (i.e. the Repelling Charge, which doesn't help me now but, if I need to build a resistance set, will come in handy). They're quick and easy ways to tweak your stats to prepare for a given boss fight.
I really need to stop being so hard on the holiday events. Live a little, Mis...live a little.
Happy Brewfest, boys and girls.

I Feel Nekkid
It's been almost two years.
Two years.
Those goggles were a symbol of both my profession and my job: Engineer...Tank.
And now they've been replaced by the most ridiculous looking helmet I've ever worn.
/sigh
/hide helm
/change blog tagline
At least Cheesi did a good job designing the EoF tabard. Got that goin' for me.

Crap I Did Last Night
Now that title represents blogging at its finest.
Actually, last night was quite a busy one. I logged in later than I usually do after working late and then walking our new American Bulldog puppy, Delilah. We've had her for several weeks, and she's almost 4 months old. 30-something pounds of determination and she's going to get up to about 100-120 lbs. Gonna be a whole lot of dog.
But, anyway, here's the WoW stuff:
If it happens, you'll read about it here. I'll take screenshots.

But, anyway, here's the WoW stuff:
- Did three Heroics: CoS (reg daily), VH, and Oculus (heroic daily).
- CoS: Grabbed some nukers and made it a drake run. Cleared it with about 3 or 4 minutes to spare and, since everybody else had one, I got the drake. That made me happy.
- VH: Ran this one because it was...well...right there after we turned in the regular daily. Nothing terribly notable, except Vel, one of our 1337 Shammies, got enough emblems for the upgrade he was after, so he grabbed it before we hit Oculus.
- Oculus: A couple of pulls in, I hit exalted with the Knights of the Ebon Blade and got the achievement for that as well as the Northrend Vanguard achievement. I also learned why everybody hates Oculus. Wiped a couple of times on the last boss, but finally managed to make it happen. It'll be smoother next time.
- The emblems I managed to pick up allowed me to get my glove upgrade. Now I've gotta figure out what to aim for next as far as Conquest, Valor, and/or Triumph emblem purchases go.
- And finally, I did my fishing daily before I logged off, turned it in, and got the Battered Jungle Hat. After running around a bit in it, I had an idea. With the hat on, I equipped my defense trinket and took a look at my stats. Aside from the huge armor ding I take without my headpiece, my stats aren't that bad. I opened Outfitter and saved the outfit under the name "Pimp."
If it happens, you'll read about it here. I'll take screenshots.

Call It Like It Is
Sunday I picked up the heroic and regular daily quests, which both happened to be Utgarde Pinnacle. Didn't get to it on Sunday, but I held on to both because it would be easy to kill both birds with that one stone.
Ran it last night and, finally, got the Red Sword of Courage. At face value, it may not look like much of an upgrade compared to the Teldrassil Protector I've been using forever, but I rolled on it (even though we had a DK in the group with a tank spec...sorry, Landel) because (a) it's just a teeny bit faster, which I like in a tank weapon, (b) because it give me a little more stam and, most importantly, (c) because of the Human expertise racial.
I lose a little strength, defense, and parry, but I'm not really fretting over any of that because I'm probably going to grab the Gauntlets of the Royal Watch tonight which will upgrade my T7s. Parry still suffers, but I'm not terribly concerned.
Worked up my sword skill last night from 375 to 399 doing AT dailies and then tanked H-VH with it. I think, based on the results, that I made the right choice...even if I end up upgrading it sooner rather than later.
But that's not the point of this post.
The point of this post is the quest item that needs to be obtained for the Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle daily: the Locket of the Deceased Queen.
Cute.
They make it sound like she passed away peacefully in her sleep. Nice, gentle, PC approach to it.
If you quested through Howling Fjord, you "deceased" the queen in a violent fashion right in front of King Ymiron.
They should call it the Locket of the chick you killed in your low 70s for a couple gold and a soon-to-be-replaced quest reward.

I Am Not Needy
A little clingy at times, maybe, but not necessarily Needy.
We didn't have enough people to raid last night, so we settled on some easy heroics for Emblems. First we hit Violet Hold, where I finally got to fight Moragg. So, after running VH 137,256 times, I got the achievement.
25 minutes or so. 3 easy Emblems. What's next?
Well, Briele and I both needed to log at about 11:30 server, and since we didn't start Violet Hold until a little later than we had hoped we decided to run a quick Nexus. That's become my favorite Emblem farming instance.
Fairly standard run. More easy emblems.
We did have an amusing moment during the Telestra fight due to unfortunate sheeping. Her favorite targets last night were Bri and me...which is a tad bit frustrating. During her first split phase, we lost a DPS. During the last one, we lost the other two DPS.
Still, with no one left but a Prot Warrior and a Holy Priestess, she died. Took a while, but she died.
I've fought Keri a bunch of times, and each time the Flame-Bathed Steel Girdle dropped there was a DPS plate-wearer in the group who needed it. Finally, since Eck's Pally already had it, I was able to Need on it and add it to my off-set.
And that's when I blew my load. Rolled a 100, got the Needy achievement, and ensured that all of my rolls in the near future will be single-digit.
Still, it was a very fun, productive evening.
This weekend I'm hoping to do some ToC farming for The Black Heart and any other tank stuff I can get my grubby hands on. I also want to grab as many Emblems as possible to make up for the time I lost this week.

Accessorizing
It's proof that I live in a house with six women when I get excited that my new cape matches my tabard.
Snagged the new back piece from the AH for a ridiculously cheap price. It was an upgrade from the previous cloak that I had, even though it reads more like a feral tank item. I could afford not having defense on the item because I was way over 540 before equipping it, and I love me some expertise. I also upgraded my shoulders to these thanks to another AH deal.
I still need upgrades across the board, but at least I'm getting myself in position to be an asset in a raid rather than a liability.
I really need to get rid of my TBC trinket that I'm still running around with. It's getting embarrassing. I'm thinking that even after they change the Emblem system I'll still get my old Pocketwatch's big brother. I feel like I'll get my tank card taken away if I don't.
Also, my new profile picture and Twitter avatar reflect my new image. I busted out the Just for Men and gave Mis a midlife crisis makeover.

So Close to Number 2
And no, it's not because I've upped the fiber in my diet.
If all goes according to plan, which in my world is a stretch, I should be an Exalted Champion of Stormwind tomorrow. This will take care of #2 on my list. I would have been in a position to nail it down today, but my plans for last night were shaken up by an extra-long school pageant that basically drained all my energy and I think even sullied a portion of my soul.
I'm also looking forward to hitting Champion so that I can start earning Champion's Seals. The Teldrassil Protector is a huge weapon upgrade for me at this point. As a human, I'd much rather have the Red Sword of Courage due to the expertise on the item itself as well as the racial bonus I get from swords, but this will get me over until then. Just the damage and stat bonuses I'll get make the Hammer of Quiet Mourning I've been lugging around look like an over-sized twig. Besides, I can make up some expertise elsewhere if I need to.
For my screw-around Fury spec, I can also snag the Claymore of the Prophet and maybe sweet talk a Blacksmith into making me a Titansteel Destroyer (with my already-farmed mats of course, because I'm still saving for #1 on the list).
Mostly, I'm excited about the prospect of getting upgrades without having to rely on drop rates. I haven't been in many heroics lately because our guild doesn't have many level 80 healers that are on regularly enough to hit H-UP on a daily basis to try and pick up the sword. PUGging is always an option, of course, but I really hate doing it on too regular of a basis. Working with PUGs can make you a better tank (and I've done my share) but if I can avoid it, I try to.
Step One, though, is to hit Champion. Hopefully the stars will align and that will actually happen tomorrow.

Fury? I Haz It.
So thanks to some much-appreciated input from Darraxus (thanks, man) and some minor research on my own, I took advantage of my talent point refund and went with the cookie-cutter Deep-Wounds Prot spec as my primary spec. I also forked up the gold to pick up a cookie-cutter Fury spec as my secondary.
My RL Avatar (apologies to Ratshag for stealing his term) rolled Bard, so I spent most of the weekend doing quests (aka gigs) and didn't have much of an opportunity to play with either of my new specs. I did, however, do my dailies on Saturday with my primary spec and kept Omen up to see what kind of threat I was producing in a very low rage, unbuffed situation. I also monkeyed around with my action bar to help improve my rotation. Overall, even though it was nowhere near a raid scenario, I was impressed. I'm really looking forward to having the opportunity to tank a raid or heroic and see the spec in action. I see some Recount analysis in my future.
As far as the Fury spec goes, I didn't play with it at all. I don't have much in the way of dps gear, and my two-handed weapon skills are stupid low anyway (hadn't even trained in two-handed maces.../headdesk). I'll take some time to save up the mats for the Charged Titanium Specs, snag some dps gear along the way, and work on my 2h skills before I wander into a heroic as a dpser.
